Party Feature!

As described in the blog: Why hello, beautiful birthday!  Today’s party comes to us from the same talented lady who brought us the charming Barber Shop Birthday last September.  While that party was definitely a manly-man theme, today’s party is all girl!  With a hot pink, black and white color scheme, polka dots, damask and feathers… this party is so sassy.  And talk about oodles of incredible desserts.  This party would have Minnie herself saying “Aren’t you sweet!”  Let’s take a look at this precious Minnie Mouse 1st Birthday Party, styled by Dawn Menon of Bee*s Knees Parties and featuring an abundance of delightful cakes and sweet treats!

Today's post is a wonderful party from Dawn Menon of Bees Knees Parties! This incredible party planner contacted me a few months ago for some Minnie Mouse fondant toppers and today I would like to share her beautiful party that was featured on The Cake Blog.

Minnie Mouse 1st Birthday Party
Dawn shared a few thoughts about this event:
“This party was for one of my clients whose daughter loves Minnie Mouse.  My client owns a D’Lites frozen yogurt store on Long Island, and wanted to have the party there. We chose to follow the color palate of the store, which happens to be black, white and hot pink.

Look at all of those incredible sweets!  Minnie Mouse cupcakes, cookies and an adorable smash cake for the first birthday girl!  And check out the main cake… it’s actually an ice cream cake made by the frozen yogurt store and then decorated with fondant pieces from The Hudson Cakery.  Doesn’t it look delicious?  Not to mention oh-so-cute!

So many delightful details in pink and black, all adorned with Minnie’s little black ears and signature bow!

Minnie, Minnie everywhere!  From the whimsical backdrop down to the every last cake pop, this party is like a trip to Disneyland!  Perfectly sweet and full of fun!

November 1st

Everyone knows that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, We all know that February is Heart Disease prevention month. But did you know that November is Diabetes Awareness Month???

Yup, it is! And today 11-1-11 is the beginning of many campaigns aimed to find a cure for this disease that affects so many of our lives.

So, you might be asking "What is diabetes?"

Diabetes (medically known as diabetes mellitus) is the name given to disorders in which the body has trouble regulating its blood glucose, or blood sugar, levels. There are two major types of diabetes: type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes, also called juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas. While its causes are not yet entirely understood, scientists believe that both genetic factors and environmental triggers are involved.

  • As many as three million Americans may have type 1 diabetes. 1
  • Each year, more than 15,000 children and 15,000 adults - approximately 80 people per day - are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in the U.S.
My son, has Diabetes Type 1. To me diabetes is personal... It affects our lives and it continuously humbles me each day as I see the way my 8 year old bravely handles this disease in ways I would never be able to.

As of right now there is no cure for Diabetes but We are hoping to change that soon! I encourage you to be part of one of the different campaigns this month aiming and hoping to find a cure!

Fields of Candy Corn

When you think of Fall candies the first thing that comes to mind is.....
Candy Corn! (right?)

So, you might be asking yourself "What is the tastiest way to eat some candy corn?" Or not but just go along with it, for the sake of the post :)

Here is my list of the Top Ten ways to eat Candy Corn!

1.  Candy Corn Martini, (I am not encouraging you to drink, but I thought it was a unique choice)

2. Fudge

10. Jello

Check out the links for instructions and recipes on how to make these sweet desserts!

An apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away

Nothing shouts "FALL" more than caramel apples! And this year there seems to be an increase for homemade or gourmet caramel apples... How can you get your hands on one of these, you might ask???

Well, here is the tutorial as blogged by the The Party Dress (one of my favorite party inspirational blogs, ever!):
One of the tastiest photo shoots/articles I did for the Fall issue of The Party Dress Magazine was our DIY Caramel Apples.  Talk about tasty!!  They are so simple to make, and you can get very creative with your toppings….which leaves you with a fabulous opportunity to coordinate with your party colors/themes.  Here are the six simple steps:

1. Gather your ingredients: caramels, apples, candy sticks, chocolate and toppings
2. Melt the caramels in a pan, and dip your apples once it is the right consistancy
3. Place your dipped apples on a piece of wax paper and let harden
4. Melt your chocolate and mix in a teaspoon of vegetable oil to make it shiny, dip the bottom half of your apples
5. Immediately dip your apple into the topping of your choice, and then let dry
Suggested toppings:
toffee crunch, mini m & m’s, chocolate chips, “turtle” toppings, nuts

But, if you can not imagine yourself doing all that melting and dipping, check out these apple creations by Kaitlin & Kylie's Apple Bar on Etsy:

Hope to have inspired you today to be healthy and have an apple ;)
